Who has to appoint one

Manufacturers outside the Union placing gas-burning appliances or fittings on the EU market.

Thresholds and exemptions

None. Portable gas barbecues and patio heaters are fully in scope.

What must appear on the label

CE marking with the notified body number, appliance categories and gas supply pressures, manufacturer and representative details, and the appliance data plate.

Marketplace fields

Marketplaces require the EU type-examination certificate for this category.

Documentation you must hold

EU declaration of conformity, technical documentation, EU type-examination certificate, and the instructions for installation, use and servicing.

Standards and testing

EU type-examination by a notified body is mandatory for all appliances, plus the applicable EN standard per appliance type.

Language requirements

Installation and use instructions in the language of each member state of sale, including the gas categories available in that country.

How long records are kept

10 years.

What happens if you do not comply

Immediate withdrawal and recall. Carbon monoxide incidents make this one of the most aggressively enforced categories.

National market surveillance authorities and gas safety bodies.

Where the boundary lies

Gas appliances always require a notified body: there is no self-declaration route, unlike most electrical products.
