Manufacturers and sellers outside the Union placing childcare articles on the EU market.
Thresholds and exemptions
None. Childcare articles are treated as a high-risk category regardless of volume.
What must appear on the label
Manufacturer and responsible person details with an EU address, age or weight range, assembly and use warnings, batch identification, and the standard reference where the standard requires it.
Marketplace fields
Marketplaces apply stricter checks here and often demand the full test report before reinstating a listing.
Documentation you must hold
Technical documentation, risk analysis, full test reports against the applicable EN standard, and traceability records.
Standards and testing
EN 1888 pushchairs, EN 716 cots, EN 14988 high chairs, EN 13209 baby carriers, EN 14350 drinking equipment.
Language requirements
Warnings and instructions in the language of every member state of sale, without exception.

Before the first unit is made available.

10 years.
What happens if you do not comply
Recall, Safety Gate alert and prosecution in serious cases. Childcare articles account for a large share of EU recalls.

National market surveillance authorities.
Where the boundary lies
Feeding bottles and soothers also fall under food contact rules, which add migration testing on top of the mechanical standards.

- Is a test report really mandatory?
- The law requires documented conformity. In practice an accredited test report is the only evidence authorities accept for this category.
